There is a point every October when my calendar stops looking like a calendar and starts looking like I am coordinating a small Halloween military operation.
There are costumes to finish, daytime trick-or-treat events that happen nowhere near actual Halloween, and then the surprisingly complicated question of which night the kids are actually supposed to knock on doors.
Because around Carlisle and the West Shore, the answer is definitely not just “Halloween.” Mechanicsburg, Camp Hill and several West Shore communities are heading out on Thursday. Other communities are sticking with October 31. Middlesex Township does not actually designate trick-or-treat hours at all. And some municipalities still have not published their 2026 schedules.
So I did the digging.
Below are the 2026 trick-or-treat dates and times for Carlisle, Mechanicsburg, Camp Hill and the surrounding communities in our Macaroni KID coverage area, plus the bigger destination-style treat events where filling the candy bucket is a major part of the plan.
A note about the times below: A ✓ means I found a current 2026 source confirming the information. An ⚠ means there is credible local information pointing to that schedule, but I am still looking for final municipal confirmation. I will keep updating this guide as more communities post their plans.

2026 Trick-or-Treat Times
Camp Hill Borough
Thursday, October 29 | 6–8 p.m. ⚠ VERIFY
Multiple current 2026 regional sources report Camp Hill's trick-or-treat night as October 29 from 6 to 8 p.m. I have not located the corresponding borough announcement yet, so this one stays marked for final verification.
Carlisle Borough
Saturday, October 31 | expected 6–8 p.m. ⚠ VERIFY
Carlisle has not yet published a 2026 trick-or-treat announcement that I can verify directly. Six to eight was the borough's 2025 schedule, and current local event listings are also using 6 to 8 p.m. on October 31 this year. That gives us good reason to expect the same schedule, but I am waiting for the borough before removing the VERIFY label.
Dillsburg Borough
Thursday, October 29 | 6–8 p.m. ✓
Dillsburg's 2026 borough schedule confirms trick-or-treat night from 6 to 8 p.m.

East Pennsboro Township / Enola
Thursday, October 29 | expected 6–8 p.m. ⚠ VERIFY
Northeast Fire & Rescue has its 2026 Trick-or-Treat Night/Open House scheduled for October 29, which gives us strong confirmation of the date. I am still checking the township for the final neighborhood hours.
Hampden Township
Saturday, October 31 | expected 6–8 p.m. ⚠ VERIFY
Hampden has not posted a 2026 schedule that I have been able to verify yet. The township used 6 to 8 p.m. on Halloween in 2025, so that is our working expectation while we wait for this year's announcement.
Lemoyne Borough

Lower Allen Township
Thursday, October 29 | 6–8 p.m. ✓
Lower Allen has officially announced its 2026 trick-or-treat night for October 29 from 6 to 8 p.m. The township has also built in a rain date of Saturday, October 31 from 3 to 5 p.m. That's a detail worth remembering before assuming a little rain will not change anything.

Mechanicsburg Borough
Thursday, October 29 | 6–8 p.m. ⚠ VERIFY
Multiple current 2026 regional sources agree on October 29 from 6 to 8 p.m. for Mechanicsburg. I am keeping the VERIFY label until I have the borough's own announcement in hand.
Middlesex Township
Saturday, October 31 | No township-designated hours
Middlesex is the oddball on this list, but intentionally so. The township no longer establishes official trick-or-treat hours. Halloween is October 31, and neighborhoods and individual families decide whether and when to participate.
Mount Holly Springs Borough
Saturday, October 31 | hours expected to be 6–8 p.m. ⚠ VERIFY
Current 2026 regional reporting identifies October 31 as Mount Holly Springs' trick-or-treat date. I have not found borough-confirmed trick-or-treat hours yet. Last year's hours were 6 to 8 p.m., so that is our working expectation rather than a confirmed 2026 time.
New Cumberland Borough
Thursday, October 29 | 6–8 p.m. ✓
New Cumberland's official 2026 calendar confirms trick-or-treat night from 6 to 8 p.m. and specifically says there is no rain date.

Newburg Borough
Saturday, October 31 | 6–8 p.m. ⚠ VERIFY
A Newburg community organization specifically identifies its 2026 Halloween event as taking place during the borough's trick-or-treat night, October 31 from 6 to 8 p.m. That's strong local confirmation, although I am keeping the VERIFY marker until I have the borough source itself.
Newville Borough
2026 neighborhood time not yet confirmed
Newville has not published a 2026 neighborhood trick-or-treat time that I have been able to verify. Last year's schedule was 6 to 8 p.m., but I am not quietly turning a 2025 time into a 2026 fact.
Silver Spring Township
Saturday, October 31 | expected 6–8 p.m. ⚠ VERIFY
Six to eight on Halloween is the recent township schedule, but I have not found a current 2026 announcement yet.
South Middleton Township / Boiling Springs
2026 time not yet confirmed
The township's current October calendar does not yet give us a 2026 trick-or-treat time, so I am leaving this one open rather than borrowing last year's schedule.
Shippensburg Borough
Saturday, October 31 | expected 6–8 p.m. ⚠ VERIFY
Shippensburg used 6 to 8 p.m. on Halloween in 2025. I am still waiting for a clean 2026 borough source before declaring the neighborhood hours official.
Upper Allen Township
Thursday, October 29 | beginning at 6 p.m. ✓ DATE/START
Upper Allen's current township calendar confirms October 29 and a 6 p.m. start. I am still looking for a primary-source ending time, so check back before planning your final candy route.

More Big Trick-or-Treat Events
Neighborhoods are not the only places filling buckets this October. I am keeping this list intentionally focused on the bigger events where families might reasonably drive across town specifically to trick-or-treat, rather than every smaller Halloween party or parking-lot trunk-or-treat happening around the region.
Streets of Treats in Downtown Mechanicsburg
Saturday, October 17 | 10 a.m.–2 p.m.
The 31st Annual Streets of Treats turns Downtown Mechanicsburg into one big daytime trick-or-treat route, with participating businesses handing out candy along with crafts, games and children's activities. Families can pick up a trick-or-treat bag and map at the Square and work their way through downtown. It is free and scheduled rain or shine.

Spooky Saturday in Downtown Carlisle
Saturday, October 24 | Noon–3 p.m.
Before Carlisle's neighborhood trick-or-treat night, kids 12 and younger get an entire afternoon to make the rounds downtown. Pick up a map on the Square beginning at noon, then follow it to participating Downtown Carlisle businesses handing out treats. It's one of those events where bringing the actual candy bucket is entirely justified.

Downtown New Cumberland Trick-or-Treat
Saturday, October 24 | Noon–2 p.m.
Downtown businesses become the trick-or-treat stops during this free daytime event, giving kids another chance to wear the costume before regular neighborhood trick-or-treat night.
Where: Downtown New Cumberland
Newville Community Treat Night
Thursday, October 29 | 6–8 p.m.
Newville TCP First Church of God is hosting its indoor Community Treat Night with candy, games and food. The indoor part is particularly attractive if October 29 decides to behave like October 29. The event is scheduled rain or shine.
Where: 475 Shippensburg Road, Newville
Carlisle Barracks Trunk or Treat
Thursday, October 29 | Trunk-or-treat 5:30–8 p.m.
The Carlisle Barracks MWR Tiki Bar is hosting a larger Halloween celebration with decorated trunks, costumes, candy, music, food and trunk contests. The overall event runs from 4 to 9 p.m., with trick-or-treating from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Organizers estimate around 150 to 200 children.
Important: This event is on a military installation. Check current Carlisle Barracks visitor and access requirements before making plans rather than assuming public gate access works like pulling into a township park.

I am continuing to check the communities marked ⚠ VERIFY as municipalities release their final 2026 information. Those entries will be updated as soon as I can verify them rather than quietly turning last year's schedule into this year's fact.
Because when you're dealing with five kids, costumes, dinner and approximately 47 plastic pumpkin buckets that somehow live in my house, arriving on the correct night feels like a reasonable baseline for success.
And once the candy gets home, trick-or-treating is only phase one. Phase two is the dump-it-all-on-the-table candy economy, complete with sorting, trading and a parental Reese's tax that remains one of our household's more successful fiscal policies.
